Carrot Hamster
About the Project
Carrot Hamster is a visual retelling of a childhood memory that’s both funny and formative. The digital illustration was inspired by the night I discovered what I thought were moving carrots—tiny orange monsters—inside my hamster cage. They turned out to be newborn baby hamsters.
The piece captures the moment as it lives in my memory: surreal, innocent, and slightly chaotic. Rendered in soft textures and a bright, crayon-like palette, the drawing mirrors the imaginative perception of childhood—where fear and wonder briefly blur together. The oversized carrot and wide-eyed hamster nestle within a stitched frame, evoking how memories are patchworked over time—sweet, strange, and enduring.
What felt dramatic then now reads as one of those absurd, affectionate stories you carry with you. Carrot Hamster is a quiet tribute to that shift in perspective—and to how the things that once scared us become the memories that make us laugh the hardest.
