Video works that explore memory, identity, and the imagination—often drawing from childhood, dreams, and internal landscapes. These pieces use layering, voiceover, and experimental visuals to capture feeling as form and introspection as motion.

Iridescent

About the Project

Iridescent is an experimental video self-portrait that explores how identity is shaped through reflection, distortion, and light. We can see most of our bodies directly, but not our own faces—only through mirrors, photographs, or digital filters. These intermediaries become distortive lenses, subtly reshaping how we understand who we are.

In this piece, I used iridescent film to cover the camera lens, manipulating it with wrinkles, flashlight glare, translucent beads, and colored lighting to create layered refractions. As the visuals progress, they move from photographic realism to kaleidoscopic abstraction—symbolizing a shift from conscious thought into deeper, less visible layers of the self.

The film opens with black-and-white images of blinking eyes—external, observational—before turning inward. These three blinks mark a transition through different states of awareness: conscious, preconscious, and unconscious. The shift from image to drawing signals a further descent, where structure dissolves into feeling, and form into sensation.

Iridescent builds on my ongoing exploration of how light and space affect perception—now turned inward as a metaphor for psychological experience. Rather than capturing likeness, this self-portrait captures sensation: fluid, fractured, and refracted.
