Process-based works grounded in risograph, screenprint, etching, lithograph, and letterpress. Printmaking here becomes more than reproduction—it’s a method of storytelling, of building physical traces and temporal layers, often informed by nostalgia, language, and texture.
Trace of Nostalgia
About the Project
Trace of Nostalgia captures the fleeting nature of memory through layered, calligraphic mark-making. Composed entirely of hand-drawn stencils and printed with blended inks, the work evokes a storm of motion—windswept, fluid, and visually dense—suggesting motion that carries memory in its wake. Words like “서울” (Seoul), “대한민국” (South Korea), and “nostalgia” are subtly embedded within the image, dissolving into the composition like memories half-recalled.
This piece continues an ongoing exploration of landscape and longing—where emotional terrain merges with physical landscape. The swirling forms suggest mountains, skies, and rivers in motion, but also the inner turbulence of diasporic memory. Through a process-driven approach, ink was allowed to pool, drag, and blur across the surface, echoing how recollection resists clarity and shifts with time.
As part of the Nostalgia Series, Trace of Nostalgia draws from both personal and collective memory—anchoring ephemeral feelings in visual rhythms. It’s a landscape not just seen, but remembered: shaped by language, light, and loss.
